Short bio/artist’s statement:  

“I want to find the work intriguing and alive.  Life is messy; it has depth and layers, complication, balance.  Light and dark.  Confusion and clarity.  I don’t see much difference between art and life.”  

Dettmer is best known for her expressive oil paintings, but her far reaching interests include the sound, look and interpretation of the written word, asemic writing and small unique book forms.  Highly respected by peers and savvy collectors nationwide, she lives and works in the mountains of southwest Colorado.  In addition to being the subject of numerous articles and recipient of many awards, her work is also featured in Ann Templeton’s book Color and Beyond.
