Jürgen O. Olbrich was born in Bielefeld in 1955. He lives in Kassel and is known for his performances, traveling affaires and editions. Since 1973 the media artist has been working on copy art series and copy art books, which he extended with copy art performances and editions from 1975 on. Since 1976 he has been publishing his magazine “Collective Copy”. As he was travelling to Poland in 1981 he did a short trip to Dresden, where he met Birger Jesch in an illegal artist meeting. Since 1984 Olbrich has been working as a lecturer in Germany and foreign countries. In 1995/1996 he was guest professor at the University of Kassel (GHK). Since 1983 he has been a member of the Kunstverein Kassel. He participated in documenta 8 in 1987 and became popular throughout the country. In 1989 he started his cycle “Paper-Police”. He collected and recycled material from public waste baskets throughout Germany. Jürgen O. Olbrich is working artistically on projects and archives that remain remembered by copies and therefore cannot be forgotten. The networker, securer of evidences and concept artist involves collaborationists from all over the world and works with, besides found materials and opportunity, with word-and-picture combinations.
